The Coronavirus crisis is impacting on the UK and the world. The situation is changing daily, indeed hourly. The following is the latest statement by the Group’s Committee, issued on 15 July 2020.
Greetings from HPS South Wales! We hope this finds you well.
We are contacting you now as, given the current situation with Covid-19, the Committee is very unsure whether a members garden visit in the autumn will be possible and if or when our indoor talks programme may restart. Such events would be very difficult with the current restrictions, and we have no clear view of when these may alter. So, the Committee has been meeting by Zoom to discuss the best ways to keep the membership in touch with one another and to spread information and ideas around the group. As this is all very much uncharted territory we would particularly like your input into the possibilities.
Firstly, as the situation may change at short notice, we would like to use e-mail to communicate with you, even if you don’t normally receive your newsletter that way. We will be contacting those in that situation separately to determine how you would feel about such a temporary change. Secondly, we will try to make more use of the groups website, both as a means of giving you the up-to-date information on what’s happening and to provide a mechanism to spread news, titbits and knowledge around the group. What do you think of the website and do you currently find it useful? How might we improve it?
This is where you can come in!
- Do you have any pictures or videos of plants or gardens you would like to share with other members? These could be about your own garden or plants, or from a group or personal visit, whatever takes your fancy.
- Would you be able to write any short pieces on any topic that might interest your fellow members?
- Have you found any websites that you think have useful information or interesting pictures which other members might like to know about?
If the answer to any of the above is yes, please get in touch and we can share any information you have via the website and the newsletter, which we are currently preparing.
To give you some ideas for things you might consider highlighting to other members, there are two attached items found by Catherine and Elaine.
If restrictions were to be relaxed in time, the Committee is considering a socially distanced members garden visit to Susan Lewis’s near Ammanford in September. If this was set up, would you be happy to come along?
Do you have suggestions for other suitable activities you would like the Committee to consider organising?
Finally, a huge thank you to those of you who have managed to pay your subs in this difficult time, and especially those who have moved to standing order. As we have lost the plant sale and also potentially the raffle income we are heavily dependent on subs to keep the group going. We will be contacting those who have not yet paid, so if you don’t hear from us, you are one of the angels!
If you have any suggestions, please send them to the whole committee via firstname.lastname@example.org We look forward to hearing your thoughts.
All Best Wishes and thank you,
John, Claire, Susan, Elaine, Chris, Jean, Sue and Catherine
