Hardy Unusual But Obtainable Plants

Arguably one of the proudest grandfathers on Twitter, Kevin Pratt starts our New Year with a talk about a mix of unusual strange flowering plants, and a few people may like to try to grow. All the plants grow in Kevin’s garden in Stockport. He will feature Arisaema, Helwingia, Fritillaria, Stachyurus, lysionotus, Eucomis etc, covering bulbs, climbers, herbaceous, shrubs and trees.

Kevin runs the Village Plants Nursery in Hazel Grove, Cheshire, which offers many rare plants for sale. Qualified in botany, soil science and horticulture, Kevin has two RHS gold floral marquee medals to his name. He has a particular passion for Stachyurus and has co-authored a book on Fritillaries.

Kevin will bring plants for sale.

As with all our meetings, kick off is at 2.00 pm at the Williams Memorial Hall in Coychurch, Bridgend. Click HERE for a location map (note that the miracle that is Google shows the red locator in the wrong place – look for the grey one below and to the left of the red one).

We entertain the speaker to lunch at the nearby White Horse pub (look above and a way to the right of the red marker for location info) before the meeting. Anyone is welcome to join us but please let us know you’d like lunch by emailing the Chair, no later than mid-day on Tuesday 14 January. The pub serves a variety of good food, though you’ll have to settle your own bill, sorry! Please aim to arrive by 12.15.
